What is the recommended way to utilize INEW?

INEW has been designed and developed to leverage the power of computer and the internet to help students learn and practice mathematics. The computer will generate the problems, check the answers automatically and store the answers in the database.

There are many ways to use INEW to meet your needs. One recommended way is as the following:

  1. Pick a starting skill which is easy for the student.
  2. Practice every weekday for 10-20 minutes.
  3. Practice each skill until the student scores 100% consistently before moving on to the next skill.
  4. Monitor the student’s progress by checking the detailed report.
  5. Adjust the practice accordingly to meet the student’s needs.
You may practice the skills sequentially as outlined or choose from any of the skills in grades K-6.

What is the history of INEW?

INEW was originally created in 1996 by a parent for her children to practice mathematic skills at home. Soon, other parents began asking for a copy of her program.  Beginning in Visual Basic, it was later  written in pure HTML format on the Internet so that everyone could print what they needed from the Internet.

Additionally, she wrote the interactive version using the Java language. Finding that the Java version was not fully compatible across platforms, in late 1999 she formed a team of developers to create a new and improved interactive version. As a result, INEW has grown to one of the largest databases of essential mathematic skills for students in Kindergarten through grade 6 (1000 essential math skills with potentially millions of variations), and is used by parents and educators in more than 50 countries around the world.

In order to reduce costs, we ported INEW to a more economic software so that we can pass the cost savings to our users.

What does the "hardcopy" mean after the skill name?

Hardcopies are just problems that you have to print on paper.  Therefore, the student will be answering on paper, not on the computer.

Most of our skills are designed and developed for online practice where students can enter their answer online interactively.

But some of them are not available for online practice. For example, skill "Tracing 5 (hardcopy)". Notice there is "(hardcopy)" at the end of the skill name.  It means that when you select this skill, it will create a new window with that skill information and you need to print it out so the students can practice it on paper. In this example, the students will practice tracing "5" on paper.

Back to top Back to top

Why does nothing happen when selecting "hardcopy"?

When you select "hardcopy" for a skill, it will create a new window with problems for that skill and you can print it out so the students can practice on paper.

Sometimes, the users minimize the "hardcopy" window to the "Taskbar" at the bottom of the screen. Then they will select another "hardcopy" skill; the previously minimized window will be updated with the most recently selected "hardcopy" skill. You have to maximize/activate/open the minimized window to see it.

You may want to temporarily disable your pop-ups blocking software.
